What to do, where to stay, and where to eat in Jamaica

photo

© Noe DeWitt

One of the largest landfalls in the Caribbean, Jamaica is ringed with some of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. But there are plenty of other ways to amuse oneself in paradise. A food renaissance has transformed old-fashioned island dishes into a nouvelle cuisine, adventure sports like mountain biking abound, the tropical vegetation attracts a stunning array of birds (and bird-watchers), and the legacy of Bob Marley endures in a vibrant music scene. Jamaica may get a bad rap as an island filled with street violence, cruise ship passengers, and all-inclusive mega-resorts, but you can still find empty beaches and that yeah-mon, island-time attitude.
