What to do, where to stay, and where to eat in Sydney
© Mikkel Vang
Glittering and cosmopolitan—but still breezy and carefree, as any self-respecting harbor-front city should be—Sydney has blossomed over the past decade into a world-class travel destination. The swanky hotels, innovative restaurants, glamorous beaches, and verdant parks here are a world away from the city’s origins as a hardscrabble British penal colony more than two centuries ago. Still, look beyond the gloss, and you’ll find that today’s Sydneysiders still have plenty of spirit and sass. They may adore their opera performances and Hunter Valley vintages—but they also love a cold pint, a bawdy joke, and a good laugh.
