Wunderkind chef Johnny Monis—just 24 years old when he opened this tiny restaurant in 2003—is still dazzling critics with his creative Mediterranean fare. Diners book far in advance for one of the 38 seats (no walk-ins are accepted) and then linger for hours over Monis's rustically delicious Greek-Italian dishes: smoked potato gnocchi with caviar and yogurt; pappardelle with a ragu of milk-roasted baby goat; braised pistachio-and-pumpkin risotto. For dessert, it's hard to beat the Greek-style doughnuts, served with a creamy chocolate mascarpone pudding for dipping.

Tip: Weekends are booked a full month in advance—so call way ahead.
