Longrain Sydney
Set in an industrial-chic converted warehouse, and with a bar full of gorgeous people nursing pricey “stick drinks” (cocktails made with vodka, ice, and various fresh fruits muddled with a wooden stick), Longrain is easy to dismiss as a scene rather than a true eating destination. But the intricate, subtle Thai cuisine served here is some of the finest Asian food in town. Among the don’t-miss dishes are a peanut curry of braised Wagyu beef with chiles and Thai basil; soft-shell crab with green mango salad in sweet fish sauce; and, for dessert, coconut and durian pancakes with passion fruit ice cream.
Tip: Although the dishes here are authentically Thai, they’re not quite as spicy as they might be if you ordered them in Bangkok. So if you want fire, just ask your server to turn up the heat.
