Housed in a former Vanderbilt mansion, Bergdorf's is the grande dame of exclusive New York department stores, with nine floors of sheer extravagance from top (the John Barrett salon) to bottom (the almost overwhelming Beauty Level). Expect to pay for top-notch service in the individual designer boutiques (Valentino, Dior, Chloe), each of which comes with its own sales staff. A nod is given to the (almost) common woman on the fifth floor, which features bridge lines and less pricey labels like Tory Burch and Rebecca Taylor. Finish your shopping by slipping into BG, the store's dining room with a drawing-room atmosphere, and order caviar with champagne—or a stiff martini.

Tip: If you can't leave without a signature violet-hued Bergdorf's bag, head to the seventh-floor chocolate shop for gift-boxed bars from Vosges or Yoku Moku's delicate cigar cookies.
