M.A.C.—Modern Appealing Clothing
Hayes Valley
The go-to store for cool, brainy fashions from Martin Margiela, Dries Van Noten, and Zucca, M.A.C. is also a shop that champions local designers. Brother-and-sister owners Ben and Chris Ospital often bring unusual fabrics back from trips overseas for SF labels like Dema, Amy Sarabi, and Podoll to work with. And that canvas bag you’re given to carry your purchase home in (and, hopefully, reuse)? It’s an artist-designed limited edition.
Tip: M.A.C holds two brief, unadvertised sales per year—they’re in early January and late June.
